Walk on Water
Drowning for so long
POETRY
You’ve been drowning for so long
That you forgot how to breathe
When it’s not water in your lungs.
And you know it.
And now that your feet are on solid ground
You keep running
Looking for water so you can drown.
But just because you’ve been hit by waves
Does not mean you need to return to them.
You are not bound but set free.
And it reminds me of Peter,
And how he walked towards Jesus.
It’s not about walking faster,
Or holding your breath,
Or swimming, or accepting death.
It’s about reaching out to Jesus,
Trust me, He sees this,
The pain and panic as the water rises,
To your ankles, knees,
And throat.
And on your own,
You can’t even float.
So have faith.
You are God’s daughter.
Take His hand and walk on water.
