If you clicked on the ‘About’ button hoping to read about who I am, I fear I must disappoint you.
This is not about who I am. This is about who I think I am.
If you truly want to get to know me, go read my articles.
I will, however, do my best to paint you a quick picture of myself so that you have a face and a personality to go along with the contemplations.
Let us say, for the sake of argument, that a person is a composition of their origins, their surroundings, their actions, their thoughts, and their values.
If this is true, then I am Coren McGirr, an American born in Austria with Irish roots. I grew up with two languages and two cultures.
I studied at the University of Vienna and have tried my hand at various professions, but no job has ever given me what writing has. Writing, it seems to me, is the attempt to express an observation of an infinitely complex reality through a limited number of words, and to then share that observation with others.
What do I write about?
In short: people, the world, life, God. I want to learn about them. I want to understand them better, so that I can live better and with greater intention.
For this reason, I would most accurately describe myself as a questioner, a seeker, and a learner. Perhaps, if I had to choose one more word to describe myself, it would be a wrestler. And I want to wrestle: honestly, courageously, and humbly, with myself, with God, and with the truth.
