Remain Silent

Just a few lines

If I wrote only the thoughts,

That I understood,

Every page on my desk would be blank.

If I shared my heart,

Withholding no truth,

I surely would run out of ink.

If I expressed each word,

With utmost care,

So as never to betray my soul,

My mind would be screaming,

My conscience be singing,

And my voice would never be spent.

Perhaps, then, it is best,

To caution my tongue,

Unsharpen the lead,

And simply remain silent.
