One Day
Tomorrow, I'll forgive
POETRY
‘The fool, with all his other faults, has this also: He is always getting ready to live.’ - Epicurus
Because one day, I won’t wind my watch back up.
I’ll instead watch those final seconds fade.
And time won’t stop, but maybe it will still seem like it.
And maybe then I won’t feel like I’m always late,
Like I’m falling behind day after day.
I’ll stop thinking, ‘Tomorrow I’ll be happy, tomorrow I can live.
Because today, I’m just me, not who I’m meant to be.’
Maybe tomorrow I’ll forgive.
Maybe I’ll forgive myself for being too slow in this race.
I’m running in place, too scared to take that first step.
The first step is always a question, and I don’t know which to ask,
It seems such an impossible task,
To just choose one now and have faith in tomorrow.
And when I won’t wind my watch back up,
And time won’t stop, but it will seem like it,
And I maybe won’t feel like I’m always late,
That will be the day that I’m happy and can live.
That will be the day that I’ll be able to forgive.
