Coffeehouse Confessions
Walk by faith and not by sight
POETRY
Today,
I could not wait for the sun to rise.
Today,
I’ll take my coffee black as the night,
Strive to do what is right,
And silence the lie,
That we have been born merely to serve our own will,
Born to satisfy our own thrill,
That there is no difference if we save or let kill.
No, I assure you,
I will look around,
Yet I will not walk by sight but by faith.
First, make the decision, then ask how to live it,
Not remain confined by that which I deem plausible,
But set free by the divine who knows no impossible.
I will walk by faith and not by sight,
For I may see the mere material,
Remaining blind to the spiritual.
Yet I have His words written in my heart,
He is the painter, and I the art.
So, I’ll take a knee and bow my head,
As I thank my Lord for this daily bread.
And I humbly ask that He forgive all transgressions,
In today's coffeehouse confessions.
